Home On behalf of the Jenks High school Otaku Club, Welcome to our site. Make sure you check out our anime convention that is coming up on March 8, 2008. Feel free to browse around and click on anything. The Otaku Club is Anime and Japanese Culture Club at Jenks. Anime is an art and storytelling form specific to Japan and takes the form of animated movies and graphic novels called manga. It is a specific but intense bit of culture that is rapidly gaining popularity in the United States. Otaku Club members focus on Cosplay, an abbreviation for ‘Costumed Play’. Cosplayers create costumes in the image of well-known characters from various media sources. You may remember us from last year’s event, Shiroi Hi Dansu (White Day Dance). We had so much fun hosting that event, we decided to expand our four hours dance to an all day anime convention. Hana*con will be held still in coordination with the Japanese holiday Shiroi Hi (pronounced: Shii-ro-ii He). Literally translated, Shiroi Hi means “White Day” and is similar to our Valentines Day. Hana*con will be held on March 8, 2008 from 10am-11:00pm in the gymnasium, at Jenks West Intermediate 909 North Adams, Jenks OK 74037. Hana*con will be an entertaining event. In addition to the dance, there will also be anime, a costume contest, and skits. We hope that many veteran anime fans and folks new to this bit of Japanese pop culture will attend our fun filled event. Dress is casual, but costumes are greatly encouraged. Refreshments will be sold at the dance. Everything is handicap accessible. A portion of the proceeds from Hana*con will be used donated to First Book, a charity dedicated to giving underprivileged children their first book to read. Please enjoy your visit to our site, and we hope to see you on March 8, 2008. |
